SMART’s Environmental Commitment
The management and staff of SMART Technologies are committed to making ongoing improvements to our environmental management system.
SMART supports the following principles:
- The appreciation of the natural environment and respect for its fragility
- Recognition of the environmental aspects of conducting business
- Encouragement of suppliers to be environmentally responsible
- Identification and minimization of internal pollution streams
- Use of environmentally friendly processes where applicable
For SMART, being a responsible corporate citizen means abiding by the philosophy of protecting the environment while conducting business.
Each of our business locations adheres to a corporate environmental policy that clearly states SMART’s position on environmental responsibility.
For the appropriate products, we also comply with several international policy directives, including the European Union's Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive and Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive, and the Control of Pollution Caused by Electronic Information Products developed by the People's Republic of China (China RoHS).

Environmental activities
SMART continually improves its environmental practices. We have active recycling programs and waste-reduction initiatives in place at several of our locations. These programs include the regular recycling of paper, cardboard and printer cartridges. Our manufacturing sites currently recycle all wood pallets or return them to suppliers. Much of the packaging materials for components is reusable and is constantly moved between our facilities and those of our suppliers.
We are also looking into new initiatives, such as a blue box recycling program for glass, metal and plastic materials, and using more environmentally friendly products, such as recycled paper and replacements for wood pallets.
These are only a few examples of what SMART is doing for the environment. We are committed to promoting the effective use of natural resources, and reducing or eliminating environmental pollution by our company.
