With which operating systems is Bridgit software compatible?
Bridgit server software is compatible with Windows only.
Bridgit conferencing client is compatible with Windows and Mac. Bridgit software automatically recognizes the operating system being used by the client and downloads the appropriate version accordingly. See system requirements for a full list of operating systems that Bridgit software supports.
How is Bridgit software different from other conferencing applications?
Bridgit software simplifies conferencing. It's as easy as sending e-mail.
What you do:
- Click on the icon
- Create a conference
- Invite participants
- Start sharing
What you don’t do:
- Install software or hardware on desktops
- Book the application in advance
- Upload files
- Pay for features you don't use
- Find your computer's IP address
How do I start a conference with Bridgit software?
To begin, open Bridgit software on your computer. If you don't have it already, you can download it in seconds.
Click Create, name the conference and, if you choose, assign a password for the participants.
How do I invite others to a conference?
You can invite attendees in several ways. Before the conference begins, you can inform them of the conference name and password by telephone, e-mail or a meeting request.
To invite attendees during the conference, click Invite. Bridgit software automatically generates an e-mail invitation.
How do I join a conference?
To join a conference, select the name of the conference and click Join, or click on the URL in your e-mail invitation. You'll be asked to supply your name and, if required, a conference password.
Can any participant share their desktop and write notes?
As a default, all participants can write over the information, use spotlight or pointer tools, and request to share their desktops.
If your conference requires more structure, the person sharing can block participants from writing notes or requesting to share.
How do I end a conference?
When you're finished, simply close the software. When the last person exits, the conference automatically ends.
Can I use my webcam with Bridgit software?
Bridgit software supports most webcams. If your webcam is dedicated to other software on your computer, you may need to make it available for use by Bridgit software.
Can participants make changes to a shared application?
If an application is simply shared, participants cannot make changes. However, if the presenter grants control of the shared desktop, participants can make changes to that application.
Can I save annotations with Bridgit software?
Bridgit software has no built-in save function. However, if you’d like a record of annotations, you can take a standard screen capture of your desktop.
Using a SMART Board interactive whiteboard to conference with Bridgit software offers easy alternatives for capturing notes.
How does Bridgit software work with a SMART Board interactive whiteboard?
When you use a SMART Board interactive whiteboard to conference with Bridgit software, you have several writing and saving options.
For instance, if you open Notebook software on a shared desktop, any participant can write into the application and the file can be saved. Screen captures of annotations can also be saved into the same Notebook file.
If you’re working in Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint applications, annotations written by any participant can be saved directly in the file.
For a video of the conference, you can use SMART Recorder to record all data and audio for playback.
Does Bridgit software include audio?
Yes. Bridgit software includes built-in voice-over IP (VoIP). Select Open Mic and your voice will be heard by all participants.
How fast is information transmitted?
Bridgit software is designed to transmit data as quickly as your network speed will allow.
If one participant has a slower connection, the presenter is informed that information may not be reaching that person as quickly as the others. The other participants aren’t affected.
Will everyone see the same screen resolution?
Participants will be able to see all data, but different screen resolution settings among the group can result in a display discrepancy.
For example, if the presenter’s setting is higher than a participant’s setting, the information will be scaled down to fit the participant’s screen.
If the presenter’s setting is lower than a participant’s, the participant will see a smaller, framed version of the presenter’s desktop.
Can I conference with someone behind a firewall?
Yes. Bridgit software has been designed to work through firewalls and proxy servers. If you can visit Web pages from your computer, you can conference with Bridgit software.
Is my information secure?
Yes. To protect your data from being intercepted, Bridgit software uses SSL encryption. SSL was developed for transmitting private documents over the Internet and is used for online banking and credit-card transactions.
Optional passwords provide additional security. An administrator can assign a password to the server so that no one can create a conference without authorization. In addition, conference owners can assign individual passwords when they create a conference, so uninvited participants cannot join.
How do I implement Bridgit software in my organization?
You have two choices for using Bridgit software. You can purchase the server package to run Bridgit software from your organization’s server, or you can subscribe on a monthly basis to use Bridgit conferencing hosted on one of SMART’s servers.
How does Bridgit software work?
The server keeps track of all active conferences, while individual participants create and join conferences using a client application.
Bridgit software uses the Internet or an intranet to connect you to others in a conference. Clients are available as a free download from your server. You can connect to other participants without violating the security of your firewall.
How are clients distributed?
Clients are downloaded from a server that has Bridgit software installed. You simply e-mail someone the client application or a URL. Clicking on this address or entering it into a Web browser automatically begins the client download.
Do I need to install the clients?
No. The client can be downloaded, so you can conference with participants in secure environments.
Is there a charge for clients?
No. Your organization purchases a defined number of concurrent users. Clients themselves can be freely distributed to anyone at no charge.
Is there a limited number of people who can conference at one time?
Yes. Servers can only handle a limited number of computer connections at once. Therefore, although an unlimited number of clients can be distributed, only a certain number can be used at the same time. We recommend no more than 150 concurrent users per server.
Multiple servers can be joined together for unlimited concurrent users. However, because only one server supports any particular conference, the user limit for a single conference remains at 150.
Do I need a dedicated server?
No. Your server can be running other applications at the same time as Bridgit software.
How does Bridgit software work within a secure network?
If you run the software within a secure network, all data remains within your network. You won’t be able to conference with participants outside your network.
