How do I turn on the 685ix?
You can turn the entire unit on or off by pressing the power button on the control panel. An illuminated ring around the power button indicates the system's status.
Do I need to use a computer with the 685ix?
Yes. The computer runs the applications and programs that are projected onto the interactive whiteboard.
Does the 685ix come with software?
Yes. Award-winning SMART Notebook software is included, which enables you to create and deliver engaging and interactive lessons. You can also write and edit notes, control computer applications, record data and audio, and write over any application in digital ink (Microsoft Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems only).
How much additional space does the widescreen SMART Board 685 interactive whiteboard provide, as compared to a 4:3 aspect ratio interactive whiteboard?
With the 685, you have 20% more active screen area.
Can I connect other technology products to the 685ix?
Yes. You can connect up to five different video sources (two VGA, one component, one S-VIDEO and one HDMI) to the extended control panel and then switch between them by pressing the input selection button, which is also located on the extended control panel. A variety of products can be connected, including a second computer, an MP3 player, a DVD player or a document camera.
Can I use the 685ix with a floor stand or wall mount?
The 685ix is not yet compatible with a floor stand or height-adjustable wall mount. Both are being worked on and will be available soon.
How durable is the screen surface?
Extremely durable. The resilient hard-coated, polyester front sheet is secured over a robust aluminum composite backboard. The surface is tear proof, optimized for projection, compatible with dry-erase markers and easily cleaned. All SMART Board interactive whiteboards are rigorously tested, designed and produced under ISO 9001:2008 certification standards.
How do I disinfect my SMART Board interactive whiteboard?
The cleaning instructions in your SMART Board interactive whiteboard’s user’s guide are adequate to handle most regular cleaning requirements. However, if you need to disinfect your SMART Board, follow the instructions below.
- Before you disinfect your board, shut down or disconnect the computer
- You can use a diluted bleach solution to disinfect your SMART Board interactive whiteboard
- Wet a clean cloth with a solution of 10 percent bleach and 90 percent water
- Wipe the display surface, Pen Tray and any other surfaces that you want to disinfect
- Repeat as necessary
SMART Board interactive whiteboards carry no more or fewer germs than other public surfaces such as door knobs or table tops. In environments where you need to regularly disinfect surfaces, follow the procedure above. The cleaning instructions in the user’s guide are available for download from the SMART Support website.
Does the 685ix come enabled with SMART’s Touch Recognition feature?
Yes. As of February 2009, all new SMART Board interactive whiteboard systems have been enabled with Touch Recognition, including the 685ix.
How do I install the UX60 projector?
The UX60 comes with a mounting template, wall-mount bracket and installation instructions that take you through the process step-by-step. Only one person is needed to install the UX60 projector because of its light weight and the system's mounting bracket design.
What kind of wall do I need to support the 685ix?
A concrete, cinder block or stud wall (wood or steel) will support the 685ix. The projector weighs approximately 22 pounds (10 kg).
Where do I run the cable?
The cables that connect the projector to the interactive whiteboard are run through the provided mounting bracket. You can run the power and data cables directly behind the interactive whiteboard to the extended control panel.
What is the lamp life?
The UX60 projector bulb is rated for 3,000 hours in standard mode and 4,000 hours in economy mode.
When can I order the 685ix?
The system is expected to be available to order on August 6, 2009.
When will the 685ix begin shipping?
The first SMART Board 685ix interactive whiteboard systems will ship October 14, 2009.
How many boxes are shipped with the 685ix?
The 685ix comes in two boxes – one for the SMART Board 685 interactive whiteboard and one for the UX60 projector.
What is the warranty for the SMART Board 685ix interactive whiteboard system?
The SMART Board 685 interactive whiteboard comes with a standard two-year warranty that can be upgraded to five years upon product registration, within 90 days of purchase. The UX60 projector has a three-year warranty, and the included projector lamp has a 90-day or 500-hour warranty.
