Frequently asked questions
How does the SMART Board interactive display frame work?
It uses SMART's patented DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology. This camera-based touch system uses digital cameras placed near the bottom corners of the screen to track finger, pen and eraser movements. The information is relayed back to the computer and recorded as a mouse action or as digital writing.
When will the frame be available to purchase?
It is available to purchase now.
What software is included?
Award-winning SMART Notebook software is included. This software sets the standard for creating, delivering and managing lessons by enabling you to write and edit notes, control computer applications and write over any application in digital ink.
What types of panels are supported?
Many standard commercial plasma panels and select hard-screen LCD panels between 42" and 65" (106.68 cm to 165.1 cm) are supported. View a list of the supported plasma or LCD panels for the SMART Board interactive display. In most instances, consumer televisions have stylized, uneven or contoured bezels and often have integrated speakers. This is less than optimal for the SMART Board interactive display frame, which requires a flat bezel surface for mounting and has cameras that need to be close to the display's surface.
How long does it take to install the SMART Board interactive display frame?
Installations can be completed in 30 minutes or less.
How long is the warranty?
The SMART Board interactive display frame comes with a two-year warranty.
Does the use of the SMART Board interactive display frame void the manufacturer's warranty of the flat-panel display?
No. The touch system remains external to the panel and does not require the panel to be opened or modified.
Can it be used on panels larger than 65" (165.1 cm)?
The SMART Board interactive display frame uses DViT technology, which is easily scalable for large screen sizes. Special applications can be discussed with SMART custom solutions who will work with you to find the best solution.
Is an interactive display frame an affordable choice?
Plasma and LCD panels have become less expensive over the last few years, and market predictions indicate that panel prices will continue to fall. The image projection engine does not have to be replaced nearly as often, and a flat-panel display has no consumables.
What other benefits are there to a SMART Board interactive display frame?
Most panels today are already HD-ready. This means you are getting a solution that will support HD content. Flat-panel displays also offer great viewing angles (some up to 178 degrees), so there is no longer a bad seat in the room.
Will the plasma display or hard-screen LCD panel be damaged by touching it?
During regular use the display will not be damaged, provided that the pencil's nib is replaced regularly. Sharp objects like jewelry or keys should not come into contact with the screen, and users should apply light pressure when touching with their fingernails to ensure the display is not damaged.
How long does the pencil's nib typically last?
The pencil nib gradually wears down with regular use. Your product includes additional nibs, which are also available from your SMART authorized reseller. The majority of users can expect to replace the pencil's nib at 3-month intervals. Frequent users may want to replace the nib more often to ensure optimum performance.
Do I need to clean my SMART Board interactive display frame?
The digital cameras located in the bottom corners of the frame are well protected from dust and dirt by protective windows. In extremely dusty environments, use a dry or slightly damp cloth, or spray an alcohol-free household glass cleaner on a cotton-tipped swab and rub it gently on the frame. Never use abrasive erasers or harsh chemicals. For specific instructions on cleaning your display surface, see your flat-panel manufacturer's support documentation.
Can the interactive display frame be mounted on a previously installed plasma or hard-screen LCD, either on a stand or the wall?
In most cases yes, providing there is enough clearance to mount the corner brackets.
